International Women`s Day 2009 Award



Based on the nominations from the people Blacktown City Council declares Women of the Year Awards each year in the wake of International Women`s Day. Dr. Nargis Banu has been awarded Women of the Year 2009 - Leadership Award this year.

Council celebrates the contributions of women with a breakfast every year that includes recognition for women's achievements and delares the winner for these awards. This year theme was "Women and Education".

The breakfast party was held on 6-Mar-2009 in the Nirimba Room, Blacktown City Council. Ms Julie Owens MP, Fedearl Memeber for Parramatta, Mayor Charlie Lowes, councillor Kathie Collins, Councillor Julie Griffith and many distinguesed guests (mostly women) were present at the breakfast.

Her education, professionalism and contributions towards the community were considered to make her the winner of the award.

In an interview with bangla-sydney Dr. Banu said, "It`s a great feeling and honour for me. At the same time, this award put more pressure on my shoulder to continue my work for the community".

We congratulate Dr. Banu on her achievement.
