News and views of Bangladeshi community in Australia

Hello Ms Shahana,

Thanks for your query, and I enjoyed reading your contributions also previously.

As I am aware, Chemists in Australia wouldn`t recognise a prescription from overseas (such as from Bangladesh), because such a prescription do not include Doctor's Provider Number, which registered GPs/Doctors in Australia do have, and must document on a prescription.

Even if an Australian Doctor provides a prescription, without Medicare Card or insurance related documents or other recognised papers/requests (perhaps for student and visitors) a Chemist will be very reluctant to dispence the item. But I know, in emergencies, hospital chemists/chemists dispence medicines for non citizen inpatients on doctors` requests in Australia.

It is the unfortunate realily, no it is not legally possible (if not checked or caught that is different) to buy and carry prescription medicines from Australia for non-citizens/others living overseas.
