Bangladesh Gold Cup Cricket Final 2016
Bangladesh Gold Cup Cricket grand final was played between Sydney Burner and Western All Stars at Blacktown International Sports Park (Oval 2), Rooty Hill on 13 March 2016.
This year final was a celebration of 20th year of the tournament which started in 1996 as a family gathering in a park, where the newly arrived shared their stories about settling in Australia, the ladies brought cooked food and the boys in their early teens played cricket.
20 years on it has grown in a GRADE A competition being played in the best fields, qualified umpires, electronic scoring, full coloured dress. The tournament can boast of its presence in Facebook, Twitter and webpage keeping pace with the modern digital platforms.
A spectacular opening ceremony was held with fanfare. Crew members from Cricket Australia (CA) and CNSW covered the opening. The tournament manager Craig, both the captains, organiser and our wonder boy U12 Rahid Alam was interviewed included the pioneers of the tournament was recorded by the crew. A large crowd was present to reminiscence how this tournament has grown in last few years which is now considered the only cricketing event in the community calendar.
Congratulations to this year champion Sydney Burners as they convincingly beat Western All Stars to win the champion trophy. Both teams deserves our appreciation.
The presentation ceremony and trophies were handed over by Mr Morris Iemma, former Premier of NSW and deputy chair of St George Cricket Association, Mr Shahadat Chowdhury, Councillor, Parramatta Council. Mr Raj Datta, Councillor, Strathfield Council, Mr Criag McLean, Manager Western Division, CNSW, Mr Hans de Konning, Fan and Community Engagement Manager, Sydney Thunder who are this year double KFC T20 BBL champions. The award ceremony was presided by AK Fazlul Haque Shafique, President BANSW Inc. along with EC members and Past Presidents of the Association. Others present were Rahmatullah of Bidesh Bangla, Srabon of RTV and Dr Nargis Banu of Voice of Bangla, we are happy to note there was a good presence of other community members to watch the cricket match.
Ash Ahmed, Ash Haque, Rony Haq, Pushkin Rahman and Bablu Chowdhury has been awarded for their active participation till date as players. Others awarded were Ayesha Mira for the web design, Mitul Haque for organizing the umpires an updating the scoring apps, Masrur Ahsan Siam as the Admin for Facebook page and Shamim Mostafa for the webpage and constantly keeping it updated.
All present and the guests were full of praise for the organising committee for arranging such a well organised final in one of the elite ground in Sydney which proved that our cricketing effort is gathering pace and we are moving forward and hoped that our boys will find a place in NSW teams.
